The track and field team will be sending Anthony Rotich and Janice Jackson to the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Rotich will be competing in his first NCAA Championships representing the Miners in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase on Thursday, June 7 at 7:25 p.m. (CT). The freshman clocked in a personal-best of 8:49.42 at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships and finished second overall. Rotich has only participated in the 3,000m steeplechase four times as a Miner. The Kenyan native will be running in the first heat and only the top five from each heat will advance to the finals plus the next four best times.
Jackson is also making her first trip to the NCAA Championships and will be running in the women’s 100m hurdles prelims on Thursday at 7:10 p.m. The sophomore transfer crossed the finish line with a time of 13.24 in the 100m hurdles at the NCAA West Preliminary recording the second-fastest time in program history. Jackson will be in the second heat of the night and only the top two times from each heat plus the next two best times will advance to the finals.
If the newcomers qualify for the finals, they will be competing on Saturday starting at 11:52 a.m. with the men’s 3,000m steeplechase and 12:14 p.m. with the 100m hurdles.
