EL PASO, TX — A small group becomes stranded in the mountains of Tom Mays Park while on a hike.
The El Paso Fire Department says the hikers, all in their 20s, set out around 9:30 this morning and quickly ran out of water. The entire group reportedly became dehydrated and one of the hikers suffered a sprained ankle.
The hikers were approximately two miles up and remained on the trail, which made it easier for the rescue teams to locate them. There was also constant communication with the hikers by cell phone. All 11 hikers were treated for dehydration at the scene.
One female was transported to University Medical Center to be treated for heat exhaustion and was in stable condition.
