El Paso's David Rodriguez, the undefeated Heavyweight, will fight July 13th in Oklahoma against Manuel Quezada. "el Niño" Rodriguez is 36-0 with 34 knockouts, while "El Toro" Quezada is 29-7 with 19 knockouts. The bout will be for Rodriguez's WBC Fecombox Heavyweight title. Newschannel 9 spoke to Rodriguez this afternoon, he told me his recovering well after receiving over 70 stitches in a fight in Scottsdale, Arizona back in December. The doctor gave Rodriguez a clean bill of health, now he says it's time to get back in the ring. Rodriguez will begin sparring later this week. He is training in Las Vegas with Rafa Garcia and Rafa Garcia, Jr... His El Paso trainer, Herman Delgado, has decided to remain in El Paso, according to Rodriguez.
Rodriguez will meet Quezada July 13th in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the Grand Casino. Rodriguez called Quezada in the top three toughest fighters he has faced so far. Quezada has a "great right hand" and "he went 12 rounds with Chris Arreola, so he has got to be good." Rodriguez has not fought since a December 3, 2001 second round TKO over Byron Polley at the Pan Am Center in Las Cruces. Rodriguez said he is in great physical condition, and he has "got to keep the momentum going... You can either get busy living, or get busy dying... I'm a fighter and it's time for me to get back into the ring."
July 13, David will get that chance.
