EL PASO - Tense moments in the Lower Valley after a train slammed into a truck on the railroad tracks.
No one was hurt in the accident, but you could say the crash was a close call.
An El Paso police spokesman says two cars hit head-on around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on top of the train tracks at Roseway and Pendale.
One of the cars left the scene, but the truck stayed on the tracks.
A short time later the train smashed the truck.
"Fortunately the occupants of the vehicle had abandoned the vehicle prior to the impact. The drivers of the other vehicle involved in the collision, the Gold Nissan, fled the scene on foot. So right now we are investigating a hit-and-run on that first collision," said Javier Sambrano, a public information officer for the department.
Police were not able to tell the conductor of the AMTRAK to stop the train.
