EL PASO — A total of 4,227 pounds of marijuana valued at $3.38 Million was seized in 10 separate incidents at El Paso ports of entry during the weekend of Cinco de Mayo.
“CBP officers remain vigilant and focused on the mission which this weekend unveiled a variety of smuggling attempts including a cargo shipment, a tour bus and a juvenile,” said acting CBP El Paso Port Director of Field Operations David Higgerson.
An abnormal x-ray led to the largest seizure made Saturday at the Ysleta port of entry from a flatbed trailer hauling a load of irrigation equipment. A CBP drug sniffing dog searched the vehicle and alerted officers to 2,566 pounds of marijuana concealed in metal canisters that were hidden inside the equipment. No arrests were made and the investigation continues.
