The Women's Fund of El Paso Offers Designer Handbags at Discounted Prices to Benefit Women Seeking Higher Education
EL PASO — They've got the power... of the purse...
The Women's Fund of El Paso will hold "Power of the Purse"... an event tote-ally geared toward "bag ladies" in the Sun City.
"People love to shop. Women love handbags, love labels and stuff. So if you're getting a really, really expensive hand bag at a fraction of the price and it's going for a cause, what a better way to raise money," said Women's Fund of El Paso Volunteer Jessica Escalante.
"Power of the Purse" will feature a boutique of gently used handbags and a live auction featuring bags from top designers and celebrities.
"We have autographed handbags by America Ferrera of 'Ugly Betty.' We have a bag by Lance Armstrong, I believe Madonna. We've got some tickets to the Grammys. We have a group of volunteers who are in charge of making sure everything is authentic. And as you can see, all the bags will have an authenticity card with the serial number," said Escalante.
The organization has collected more than 900 new and gently used purses for the event which will help clutch scholarship funds for underpriviledged women in El Paso.
"We're doing what we love. Hanging out, shopping and to think that there's no guilt behind it because it's actually for a great cause. I think it's such a wonderful, wonderful idea," said Escalante.
Proof charitable efforts never go out of style.
More than 600 "bag ladies" attended the last "Power of the Purse" event.
So organizers encourage you to purchase your tickets now... as few tickets will be available at the door.
"Power of the Purse" begins at 6 p.m. this Thursday at the Sotoa Office Lofts in Downtown.
You can purchase tickets at www.womensfundoelpaso.org for $75 a piece.
