El Paso — A public meeting on Tuesday will cover the future plans of a traffic project enhancing access from Paisano Drive to UTEP and surrounding neighborhoods.
The proposed Spur 1966 would create a bridge over Interstate 10 that connects Schuster Avenue where it ends at UTEP to Paisano. The estimated project length would be about 0.7 miles.
Renderings, proposed engineering layouts and a project schedule will be among the displayed items. Materials will be presented in English and Spanish. There will be no formal presentation, but TxDOT representatives will be available to answer questions.
TXDOT says the meeting will give people a chance to study the proposal, ask questions and offer suggestions about the project that could start as soon as 2013 and should take about 18 months to complete. There is no set budget yet.
"The project will benefit UTEP, the residents of Sunset Heights, Mission Hills, and Kern Place, and patrons of Mesa Street businesses and nearby hospitals and medical offices," said Greg McNicol, UTEP associate vice president for facilities services.
He called this “one of the important transportation improvements being developed.”
