The Western Athletic Conference has a very uncertain future after reports that as many as four teams could defect by 2013. UT-System Board of Regents will vote Tuesday on UT-San Antonio, who was set to join the WAC in a few months, to move to Conference USA. Reports have now surfaced that Louisiana Tech will also leave for CUSA and Utah State and San Jose State will join the Mountain West Conference in 2013 leaving the WAC with only three fooball participating members; New Mexico State, Texas State, and Idaho.
When the rumors of departures surfaced, Texas State officials said they would likely leave for the Sun Belt Conference should the WAC desolve.
The movements come as Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference are in talks for a proposed merger that would created a potential 24 team super conference.
