EL PASO — Solar powered rooftops are not a thing of science fiction. It's a reality in downtown El Paso.
The 18th floor of the El Paso Electric's Corporate Headquarters on Stanton street, has 120 solar panels. A field of panels that size can generate enough power for slightly more than a dozen homes for an entire year.
Nationally, solar usage is at just 1 to 1.5 percent. Here in Far West Texas/Southern New Mexico, the solar usage is well above 3%. This project is just the start of a bright future for businesses and residents in the Sun City.
