Several internet sites have written that the Conference USA-Mountain West merger, announced in February, is very close to dead. Newschannel Nine spoke to UTEP officials, and it sounds like those calls that the merger will not happen are a bit premature.
"We received an e-mail from Courtney Morrison Archer at the Conference USA office earlier today regarding this story. Anonymous sources were used for the article and C-USA and Mountain West presidents continue to move forward with discussions. Nothing has been determined until the presidents meet again at the end of the month," courtesy of UTEP Media Relations.
Last month UTEP President Diana Natalicio, along with other UTEP Officials, told NC9 that the 16 institutions in C-USA and the MWC – East Carolina, Marshall, Rice, Southern Mississippi, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB and UTEP from C-USA and Air Force, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, UNLV and Wyoming from the MWC – have “decided to work together to form a new association.
