The Memphis Tigers handed UTEP a 7-2 loss to complete the three-game sweep on Sunday in Memphis, Tenn. The Miners are now 13-31 overall and 2-16 in Conference USA play with nine games to play in their 2012 campaign.
The Miners struck first in the contest bringing two runs to the plate in the second inning. Kayla Black led off the inning with a walk and came around to score on a double off the bat of Ashley Collazo. Collazo advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sac-fly to left by Courtney Ware to give UTEP a 2-0 edge.
The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the third when Palmieri singled, stole second, and then scored on a single by Mosby.
UTEP held on to their lead until the bottom of the fifth when Memphis posted two runs in the bottom of the fifth off of Colleen Hohman. Three singles in the inning led to the two Memphis runs and the 3-2 Tiger lead.
Memphis put some insurance runs up on the board when four batters crossing the plate to extend their lead to 7-2 over the Miners.
Hohman pitched 5.2 innings giving up all seven runs on eight hits and five walks.
Ashley Collazo went 2-4 with a RBI and had her first multi-hit game since March 10 against Southern Miss.
UTEP will host UAB for their final conference home series of the 2012 campaign starting with a doubleheader on Saturday April 21 at 2:00.
