Willie Gandara Jr.'s legal battle is just beginning.
He and his attorney, Joe Spencer, have until june to decide whether Gandara will go to trial or plead guilty.
The former county commissioner has been charged with federal drug trafficking charges.
Today, his attorney asked for a two month pass to continue investigating new evidence before making a decision to face a jury.
"At this time we've entered a plea of not guilty we have just gotten some discovery from the government. We don't know all of the evidence yet, we're going to make a decision on that but at this point that's the direction were headed," Spencer said.
U.S. District Judge Frank Montalvo says if Gandara does not plead guilty in June, his trial date will be set for no later than Halloween.
