EL PASO — Sheila is 10 years old. She is in the 4th grade and she loves to read.
She was shy when we visited, but she finally opened up a little when we started to talk about one of her favorite movies, Twilight.
"I watch them with my friend victoria and she keeps me company and we laugh sometimes at part of it," said Sheila.
Priscilla Thornton works with Child Protective Services. She said Sheila was placed in CPS custody because of neglect. Sheila's mom and dad did not properly care for her. To no fault of her own, Sheila is now searching for an adoptive family.
"She really longs to have a forever family. She has been in foster care since 2006 and she very much longs to have a family that will take care of her and be there for her no matter what," said Thornton.
Sheila said if she were to find a forever family, she would like to do simple things such as play board games, go to church and cook together. When she grows up, she wants to be a chef.
"We could bake cookies for Christmas and decorate them," said Sheila.
Despite being a little shy during our visit, Sheila is normally very outgoing.
"She is actually a very happy child she loves to talk she is very outgoing she likes to sing, she likes to dance," said Thornton and added, "She is beautiful and she has a lot a lot of potential. She is very very smart. She loves to be around people and she is a joy. It would be great to be able to find and giver her exactly what she has been wanting."
Sheila said she wants what every child deserves, "I want a family that wants to take care of me."
