SUNLAND PARK - The Sunland Park Mayor-Elect will be arrested once again.
Daniel Salinas, who was elected the City's Mayor March 6th and has been indicted on extortion and tampering with evidence charges, will now have bribery and conspiracy to commit bribery charges added to the list, said Dep. District Attorney Steve Dlankinship.
This, after the acting Sunland Park police chief, Luis Monarez, was also arrested Monday.
According to Dlankinship, Salinas approached Monarez about his sister, Veronica, who was making plans to run for the City Council District 6 seat against Jessica Avila.
Salinas promised Monarez, who'd been fired from the department, a new position as a captain, so long as his sister Veronica did not run, said Dlankinship.
Salinas, Monarez, and his sister Veronica Monarez, had a meeting, said Dlankinship. Salinas then also promised Veronica a position as a police officer, even though she had no qualifications to be an officer, said Dlankinship.
The pair convinced her not to run. Monarez was eventually hired by the department, said Dlankinship.
Luis Monarez was booked on a $50,000 cash bond.
Salinas told authorities he would be turning himself in on the charges, said Dlankinship. As of news time, that still has not happened, said Dlankinship.
He will be booked on a $50,000 cash bond.
