Sunland Park, NM — Sunland Park Chief of Police Luis Monarez is on the other side of the law. New Mexico State Police arrested him this afternoon on charges of bribery and conspiracy. He was taken into custody at Sunland Park City Hall. Our crew was there as he came out and was placed inside a police car for a ride to jail. Monarez is the eighth person arrested in Sunland Park in the corruption sweep that includes mayor-elect Daniel Salinas and others for allegedly blackmailing a mayoral opponent by arranging a secret video recording with a topless dancer.
