The fight to make El Paso City Council the authority over the stormwater rates will now go to voters.
Friday, the City Clerk verified that enough valid signatures have been gathered to force the issue on to the May ballot.
City Council chose not to act on the first petition brought to them in December. That gave the group pushing for the petition 60 days to gather the needed signatures a second time.
If voters approve the issue, besides taking the fee authority away from the PSB and giving it to City Council, it will also force the fee to cease until City Council decides what to do with it.
That means, 1.25 Millon dollars in fees per month will stop unless City Council votes to continue the fee.
