After years without any new developments, the land where The Farah Building once stood is becoming a state of the art shopping center, and developers are already looking for tenants.
Although there aren't any structures built on the property, the developers are moving full steam ahead adding that the shopping center will have amenities El Pasoans have never seen.
This is where The Fountains at Farah will stand.
"I would venture to say nothing in the state of Texas has ever been developed in this form and fashion, and maybe even The United States,” said developer Wes Miller.
Miller says around 20 stores that aren't in El Paso are interested in making The Fountains at Farah, home.
The shopping center will be just across the street from The Cielo Vista Mall, and some El Pasoans think that's too close.
"I think it's too much because Cielo Vista Mall is bigger. I think that they need to make it in another place,” said El Pasoan George Olmos.
Others say the increased competition will translate to better deals for shoppers.
"They are going to go for quality. You know, Cielo Vista is a quality mall. So people want that, and the more competition, the better off it is always,” said El Pasoan Donald Scharf.
The El Paso Economic Development Department says The Fountains at Farah will have a positive impact on the local economy.
Next week, the economic department will host a conference to help attract new retailers to the Sun City.
"I think a lot of retailers don't realize how powerful the El Paso community can be as far as a purchasing power,” said Marrisa Monroy from The El Paso Economic Development Department
The Fountains at Farah is expected to open in the Fall of 2013.
