Camilla Carrera batted a team-high .577 and slugged 1.423 this week as the Miners posted a 5-2 record including a 2-1 series win over Southern Miss in the Conference USA opener.
Carrera scored 12 runs on 15 hits, drove in 19 runs, and hit five doubles and seven home runs. Carrera also belted her 15th homer of the season, which broke the school record of 14 previously set by Chelsea Troupe. The senior recorded 42 putouts and six assists in the field.
Carrera finished a four game series versus Evansville with six hits in 13 at-bats. She hit four long balls in the series and drove in eight. Her performance was highlighted by a 3-4 day that included two doubles, a home run and four RBIs in the third game of the series.
The Miners opened conference play with a series against Southern Miss in which Carrera batted .692 and slugged 1.462 with zero strikeouts. The Laveen, Ariz. native opened the series with a 4-5 performance, scoring twice and driving in a run. Carrera followed up with a 3-4 day at the plate with two home runs and five RBIs. In the final contest of the week Carrera blasted a grand slam for her third home run of the series and 17th of the season.
This is Carrera’s first C-USA Hitter of the Week honor this season and fourth of her career.
