The Hanks Knights surprised everyone by winning a share of the 1-5A district championship with Coronado, and after one season of not making the playoffs, Hanks is in the 5A Regional Semifinals for the first time since 2000.
Hanks is an impressive 24-8, and will face #3 South Grand Prairie (34-2) in the 5A Regional Semifinal, Friday, 7:00pm MST in Fort Worth at the Wilkerson-Greines Activities Center. The Warriors feature UTEP committment Chris Washburn, younger brother of UTEP freshman Julian Washburn.
Hanks Head Coach Manny Flores said support has been unwavering. "I've been getting some text messages and some emails from people throughout El Paso that I've never heard from so it's awesome. I'm relaying the message to the kids and they kind of understand the importance and support they are getting throughout the city." Hanks' Joseph Villa added, "Everyone has been texting us saying they have our backs. Saying they support us. We are here for you, whatever you need. El Paso is with us so we can't let them down."
