Dominique Hamilton played four years as a defensive lineman at the University of Missouri, this after graduating from Chapin High School in El Paso. Though injured for much of his career, Hamilton made a name for himself as one of the more consistent Defensive Lineman in the Big 12. Hamitlon finished his senior season with 13 starts, 56 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks and two fumble recoveries. Here are notes from the NFL Combine in Indianapolis:
40-yard dash: 5.52 sec
Bench Press: 31 reps
3-Cone Drill: 7.82 sec
20-yard Shuffle: 4.78 sec
Hamilton is a solid player who has incredible size for an interior lineman and has been durable throughout his time at Mizzou. A non-athletic mover, Hamilton doesn't have quite the strength to play nose in a 3-4 base defense, but he could fill a similar role in a 4-3 and help to clog up the interior for an NFL defense. He is slow off the ball and not much of a factor against the pass, but teams will likely feel enticed to take him in the late rounds given his production in college and size for the position.
StrengthsHamilton is good against the run to defeat single blocks and make a play on the ball. He has a fire in his play that is obvious when defending the run. He can defeat single blocks with ease and is good to flow toward plays away from him and continue to be a factor even when the play is not right in his gap. He tackles chest-high but is big enough to engulf smaller runners. Hamilton has developed his hand technique over the years and has shown the ability to play with good technique, albeit inconsistently.
Hamilton is a very slow mover who takes a while to labor off the ball once it's snapped. He doesn't play instinctively and could struggle against double teams at the next level. NFL teams will want to give just enough help from another interior lineman to seal him and he could be entirely eliminated from the play. He is a non-factor against the pass; NFL offenses will love to just slightly double him against the run and forget about him entirely on passing downs, he needs to be more of a factor and consistent player against the pass to be a three-down lineman.
