Presidio, TX — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the Presidio port of entry in seized 178 pounds of marijuana Wednesday afternoon. A 30-year-old Mexican man was arrested in the failed smuggling attempt.
“This is a very significant marijuana seizure and the largest recorded at the Presidio port of entry since a 392-pound bust we made here in October of last year,” said acting CBP Presidio Port Director Jesus Chavez. “CBP officers at the Presidio port remain vigilant and thorough in their inspections.”
CBP Officers found that a Chevrolet Silverado entering from Mexico had three metal boxes hidden inside the fuel tank after an investigation. The metal boxes were opened revealing compressed marijuana.
CBP officers took custody of the driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Abraham Wiebe-Krahn of Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) HSI special agents and arrested on importation of controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute charges.
