SANTA FE - The New Mexico Senate passed a bill that would sentence child murders to life without parole.
It is the highest sentence in the state and would apply to the abduction and murder of a child under the age of 13.
The bill was spearheaded by Senate Majority Whip Mary Jane Garcia of Dona Ana County.
It will now go to the New Mexico House of Representatives for consideration.
