EL PASO - The 6th Annual Michelob Ultra El Paso Marathon is this weekend and race organizers hope new changes to the course will bring in more runners.
Some of the changes include a new starting point and an earlier date. The previous five marathons have been held in March. This year's marathon is Sunday, February 5th.
Race Director Mike Coulter hopes the new changes will bring in more runners.
"We recognize we have a partnership with runners in Mexico and we want to afford them the opportunity to run the El Paso Marathon and then turn around and run the LaLa Marathon in Mexico," Coulter said.
This year 433 runners have registered for the full marathon and over 1,000 have registered for the half marathon. An increase of about 25 percent compared to last year.
Runners can still register for the race at the Marathon Expo inside the Convention Center from 8:00a.m. to 6:30p.m. Saturday.
Race starts Sunday, Feb 5th:
7:00a.m. - Transmountain
5:30a.m. - Buses will shuttle runners from the finish line at Union Plaza (downtown) to the start line at the top of Transmountain
