Tax payers in El Paso may notice a change when they receive their 2009 property tax bill. This year, the enclosed payment envelope is labeled with a P.O. Box address in Phoenix instead of the usual El Paso address. Since the bills started going out this week, calls from confused tax payers have been pouring in to the tax office.
The city tax assessor says there's no reason to worry because your bill will still get to the right place. In the past, payments received here in El Paso would then have to be sent to the Wells Fargo processing center in Phoenix. Now the payments are being sent directly there.
The city tax assessor, Juan Sandoval says the change saves El Paso tax payers $150,000 a year in operation costs.
Payments must be submitted by February 2, 2010. Payments may be made through the mail, at any Wells Fargo Branch in El Paso County,at City Hall, at any County Tax Office , or online with a credit card. Cash will not be accepted.
Tax bills for the San Elizario and Canutillo Independent School District will be sent out after November 3, 2009.
