UTEP women’s basketball head coach Keitha Adams will be honored for notching her 300th career win in a pre-game presentation before the Miners challenge UCF at 2:05 p.m. MST at the Don Haskins Center Sunday. Tickets for the tilt are just $5 for adults & $3 for kids, and may be purchased by calling 915-747-5234.
Adams, the winningest coach in program history reached the milestone after the Miners (18-2, 7-0) extended their winning streak to eight with a 70-63 conquest of Southern Miss on the road on Jan. 26. She is now 300-182 in her 16th season as a collegiate head coach, including 173-145 in her 11th year on the UTEP sideline.
She has delivered the three most successful seasons in program history (22-8, 2006-07, 28-4, 2007-08 & 18-12 in 2008-09) and has UTEP flying high once again this season. With a mark of 18-2, the Miners have equaled their best record through 20 games in school history (2007-08).
In order for that success to continue, the Orange and Blue will have to be ready to play against the Knights (9-10, 4-3 C-USA). UCF, the 2011 C-USA tournament champions, had ran off three straight league wins before being edged out by SMU, 60-48, last time out on Jan. 26.
It will be the first meeting between the squads since UCF used a half-court buzzer beater to defeat the Miners, 68-65, in Orlando on Feb. 10, 2011.
One positive for the Orange and Blue is that this year’s match-up will be contested at the Don Haskins Center. UTEP is 11-1 at home in 2011-12, including a mark of 3-0 in league play.
A big factor has been fan support. The Miners lead C-USA in attendance with 1,598 fans on average, including 2,754 per game since the onset of league play. Helping that figure has been eclipsing 2,000 fans in four of the past five contests and six times overall in 2011-12.
