FORT BLISS- U.S. Defense Secretary Panetta spoke about the controversial video that hit the internet Wednesday while attending Fort Bliss on Thursday.
The video depicts U.S. troops in Afghanistan urinating on dead Taliban soldiers.
Secretary Panetta told Newschannel 9 that he spoke with Afghan President Hamid Karzai over the phone on Thursday morning, and told him that the actions of a few U.S. troops do not represent the morals of The United States.
The Defense Secretary says the video's authenticity has not yet been confirmed, but at this point it seems it is authentic.
"When that kind of deplorable behavior is there, and it is in the hands of those that are our enemies, it can be misused in a way that makes the challenges we face in that part of the world that much tougher,” said Panetta.
Secretary Panetta says he has called for an official investigation into the shocking video, so the troops shown in the images can be held responsible for their actions.
