EL PASO - Police are investigating the first homicide of the year. It happened shortly after midnight Friday morning in the 1100 block of Texas Avenue.
Police responded to a call of men fighting. They were told one of them had a knife. When they arrived, they found a man in his 50's lying on the sidewalk with multiple stab wounds in his upper torso.
He was taken to University Medical Center. Police say he died there a short time later.
Officers also found two men near the scene. They were stopped and questioned. One of the men was taken into custody. Charges are pending, but police say the man has not been charged.
Crimes Against Persons and Crime Scene Investigations were at the scene much of the morning. Police have not said if the murder is drug or gang related.
Texas Avenue between Noble and Octavia will be blocked off until 9 a.m.
