UPDATE: 3:08 P.M. - We're learning more about who was involved in this morning's deadly wreck in West El Paso.
El Paso Police Dept. spokesman, Darrel Petry, says just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Miguel Vargas, 22, was speeding down N. Mesa near Executive Center Blvd. with four other passengers; Stacy Reyes, 18, Nefi Armendariz, 20, Idaly Reyes, 19, Kim Araujo, 23.
He lost control and slid his red Mitsubishi Lancer sideways, crashing into a rock wall, said Petry in a statement released this afternoon.
The impact caused the car to fly into an embankment, hit a tree trunk, then catch fire.
Idaly Reyes and Kim Araujo died.
Araujo was thrown from the car when it hit the rock wall, said Petry.
Reyes died inside the car.
Armendariz and Stacy Reyes were both rushed to University Medical Center to be treated.
Vargas was also treated and released at a nearby, unnamed hospital.
Police arrested Vargas, charging him with two counts of Intoxicated manslaughter and two counts of intoxicated assault.
Police say the passengers were also not wearing seat belts.
Reyes and Araujo are the 73rd and 74th persons to die in traffic-related incidents this year.
A nearby building, located at 4171 N. Mesa, also suffered damage from the fire
