EL PASO- During the winter months, more people get laser treatments than any other time of the year according to a plastic surgeon in East El Paso.
He shows us the results of two of the newest lasers and tells us why winter is the best time for these procedure.
"Doing this type of fractional resurfacing improves skin texture, skin color, pore size, acne scarring, any kind of scarring issues that we may have," said Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center technician Alice King.
The Fraxel Dual 1550/1927 skin resurfacing laser is some of the newest technology to treat skin discoloration and wrinkles at Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center in West El Paso.
"We have them cleanse their skin. Apply topical anesthetic, remove the anesthetic and begin the treatment," said Alice.
Plastic surgeon Dr. Lyle Weeks says the best time to have these procedures is during the winter. "It's very important to avoid the sun as much as possible and it's a lot easier to do that in the winter time than it is in the middle of the summer," said Dr. Weeks.
Alice says the 1927 laser is stronger than the 1550, but the healing time is three days with the 1550. With the 1927, it’s about a week. The recovery time is considered rather quick. "The beauty of this compared to some of the elderly technology were they removed entire surfaces of the skin, the recovery is much faster and easier," said Alice.
"We can even treat other body parts so this is a great anti-aging treatment for sun damage on the backs of the hand, the neck, the décolletage," said Alice.
You may need several treatments depending on the condition of your skin. Results are gradual. "The results occur over time and you really won't get the final result even from a single treatment for as long as six months," said Dr. Weeks.
The cost of four treatments for the 1550 is $2,800. For the 1926, the cost is $1,600 for two treatments.
