EL PASO- American Airlines announced that their pilots will use iPads in the cockpit.
For pilots, this comes as a huge convenience because they will no longer have to carry heavy briefcases usually filled with navigation charts and flight manuals.
The Federal Aviation Administration says they've done rigorous testing for the last six months and the iPads don't interfere with the aircraft controls.
Some travelers have mixed feelings. Kelly Muscarello thinks the pilots are getting special treatment. "Why are they allowed to use their iPads when they're closer to all the equipment?"
Carla Bustamante, who was on her way board her flight said "I think it's not really fair because like they're still on the flight and it would be the same if another person from back is using it."
The FAA demands that the iPad internet connection stays turned off. Javier Carrasco, a traveler, said he doesn't mind at all. "As long as they're not playing games or solitaire while we're landing or taking off...I don't see a problem with it."
