PROSPER, TEXAS- Caitlin Woody was issued something other than a ticket.
Like other Prosper, Texas drivers, she was handed a gift card as a reward for good driving.
"Maybe they noticed they had a safe speed coming into a parking lot, their inspection was up to date or they were using the safety belts in the vehicles," said Gary McHone, Prosper’s Assistant Police Chief, of the officer’s choice of drivers.
Police officers mainly give in school zones, surprising the people dropping off their kids.
"There's such a high concentration of drivers at pick up and drop off times, that we can safely approach those vehicles," said McHone.
He says this is their way to live up to a well-known police motto of “to protect and serve.” It may be far away from the North Pole, but this quiet Texas town has plenty of holiday cheer.
