EL PASO - Water flooded streets in Central El Paso overnight, and the streets are now frozen.
El Paso Water Utilities Spokesperson Christina Montoya says a gasket on a water meter blew, and that caused water to come out. According to witnesses, water shot high enough to reach the balconies of nearby apartments.
Freezing overnight temperatures caused the water from the blown gasket to freeze, but El Paso Water Utilities sent out crews to cover the ice with sand.
Montoya says water service in the area is not affected, and crews should have the gasket fixed soon.
*A prior version of this story incorrectly attributed the frozen streets to a water main break.
