According to KOB-TV in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho Cleveland quarterback Cole Gautsche says he changed his verbal commitment and decided to play for UNM instead of New Mexico State. Gautsche had committed to New Mexico State Head Coach DeWayne Walker, but the Gatorade New Mexico Player of the Year talked with new UNM football coach Bob Davie this weekend and decided to play for the Lobos instead.
Gautsche accounted for 62 touchdowns this season with the Storm. He helped lead Cleveland to a state title this past weekend, capping off an unbeaten season by beating Mayfield in the 5A State Championship game.
Gautsche plans to graduate high school early and enroll at UNM in January.
