EL PASO- The El Paso Public Library unveiled its new mobile technology center to the public.
The Tech-mobile is a bus equipped with 12 computer work stations, a large screen TV, smart board for instruction, 2 wheelchair accessible work stations, wireless internet and a full time instructor.
Steven Styles, an instructor for the Tech-mobile says that this is a great opportunity for the community. "It's just a great opportunity for folks in the county area who don't have internet access to get onto the computer, or the internet, to surf the net or get email."
This is the first of it's kind for the El Paso Public Library. People can walk onto the bus and use the computers for job hunting and resume building. The Tech-Mobile will bring free computer training as well as Internet and computer access to areas of El Paso County where public access computers and broadband technology are scarce.
The vehicle costs $346,399 and is paid for through a grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration Broadband Technology and Opportunities Program.
