Bernie Olivas has been doing this for more than a decade so he knows everything will sort itself out in the next seven days. The Sun Bowl's Executive Director has a pretty good idea who will play in the New Year's Eve game but can only narrow it down to five.
From the ACC, either Georgia Tech or Virginia will visit the Hyundai Sun Bowl to face Washington, Utah or Cal. All of those PAC 12 teams are 7-5.
"We select after the Alamo Bowl and the Holiday Bowl and all three of those team are in play for all three bowl games," said Olivas. "We think Utah might be attractive to the Alamo Bowl and since Washington played in the Holiday Bowl last year, they would probably pick Cal which means Washington falls to us, and that would be just fine. A Georgia Tech-Washington game would be a great match-up."
Sun Bowl officials have attended several Georgia Tech games this year including this weekend's match up with Georgia. Sun Bowl officials did not scout a single Virginia game this season.
Bowl invitations can officially be extended on December 4th.
