FORT BLISS- Another thing to be thankful for this holiday season is the service of all our military members.
Today, the armed services YMCA showed their thanks to our nation's finest by giving away food baskets to young soldiers and their families. Fourteen hundred food baskets that included a Thanksgiving Day turkey were handed out at Fort Bliss. Organizers say this is the 15th year food baskets have given to soldiers in need.
"A lot of military families, that just sometimes, things happen in the transition, going from installation to installation things happen. And the money they have to spend every time they move to a new location. And it gets difficult sometimes. It's very challenging for military families," says Jose Melendez, Armed Services YMCA.
Any leftover baskets will go the YMCA's emergency food pantry to be given out throughout the year.
