EL PASO- It just got easier to donate blood in the Sun City.
United Blood Services just unveiled Maxine, a kiosk that matches repeat donors with people who need blood.
It can also determine whether a donor can give more than the usual amount of blood, especially helpful when someone's life depends on the donation and this time of year, the need for blood is higher than usual.
"Especially this week. This is Thanksgiving week and we always have a rough time getting blood donors in. People kind of forget. And there's accidents and there's always going to be trauma. We've had a rash of them, unfortunately, in the last couple of weeks in El Paso," says Luann Wieland, United Blood Services.
Wieland says the average blood donation takes between 30-45 minutes. Donations help all 18 hospitals in our region.
