EL PASO- County Commissioners argued today about appointing a new member to the El Paso County Ethics Commission.
Commissioner Anna Perez came to the meeting hoping to appoint David Head to the ethics commission. Head is married to one of Perez’s staff members. Then it got interesting as other commissioners called this a conflict of interest. Earlier this year, many criticized Commissioner Willie Gandara when he appointed his chief of staff to sit on a hospital board.
"But I see very large distinctions between this appointment to the ethics commission and yours to a taxing entity. But you can vote however you'd like," said Perez during the meeting.
"We just need to change how we do business, I think to that argument as you posed it, is an example of how we should not be conduction ourselves on commissioners court," says Perez.
The session ended when David Head won approval to the county ethics board.
