The Coronado football team is back in the playoffs after University Interscholastic League officials ruled El Dorado used an ineligible player forcing two games to be forfeited.
The T-Birds will now play San Angelo Central at 11:00 Saturday afternoon in Midland.
Aztec officials self reported the violation on Saturday which involves residency requirements that were not met. El Dorado will appeal the UIL ruling. A conference call will take place at noon Wednesday but school officials could not recall a residency violation being overturned on appeal.
The Aztecs have not given up hope. The team continues to practice in case the ruling is overturned.
"Technically, Coronado should be in the small school division but since this all happened after district certification, the UIL decided Coronado would play in the large school division of the playoffs or forfeit," said Ken Owen, EPISD Athletic Director. "If Coronado had moved into the small school division then all of the playoff matchups would have been changed."
