EL PASO- An El Paso gym is holding a quest for the best crossfit competitors this weekend.
Push Fitness and Athletic Training in Central El Paso is organizing the event with two goals in mind. And as the competition draws closer, they're hoping to push up the number of participants. In a little more than two weeks, their "Push Crossfit Beatdown" competition is expected to draw contestants from every level.
"Everything from beginner level to advanced, meaning everything from push-ups to pull ups to rope climbs, hand stands," said Push Fitness and Athletic Training business partner Justin Kaufman.
The competition is made up of teams of 4, either four men and four women or two men and two women and each team has to go through the exercises listed on a board in a certain amount of time in order to make it to the next level.
The owner of Push Fitness, Daniel Alvarado and his business partner Justine Kaufman are organizing the event with two goals in mind.
"We’re trying to build a camaraderie and type of teamwork and relationship with the other gyms as well," said Daniel.
Their other goal is to put their name out there, since they just became crossfit affiliates. They say each team will have a judge assigned to them to count their reps and to make sure they're doing it correctly. "There’ll be videos sent out to ensure that everybody knows how to properly do the technique and skill of each exercise, what counts, what doesn't count," said Daniel.
Daniel says there will be other things to do besides competing. "It’s going to be a fun, fun day. We're going to have a live DJ, lots of food, lots of sponsors," said Daniel.
And there will also be payouts for those who "push" the limit. “We’ll have lots of prizes, from cash prizes, gift coupons, gift certificates, all sorts of fun prizes," said Daniel.
Push Crossfit Beatdown takes place at Push Crossfit and Athletic Training. The address is 6440 Gateway East Bldg B and it'll be held this Saturday, November 12th. The competition starts at 8:00 a.m. and finishes whenever the last team is done. Registration fees are $20 for individuals or $60 for teams of 4.
