The UTEP men’s basketball team will conduct a free scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. in the Don Haskins Center as a precursor to the Miner football team’s game versus Southern Miss.
Doors will open at 2:30 p.m.
After the scrimmage, UTEP men’s and women’s basketball players will sign autographs on the north concourse of the Sun Bowl. Kickoff for the football game is 6 p.m.
The basketball scrimmage will allow fans to get acquainted with a host of new players. The Miners will introduce eight freshmen, a Division I transfer (guard Jacques Streeter) and a junior college transfer (forward Malcolm Moore) this season. UTEP returns three letterwinners from last year’s 25-10 squad -- senior forward Gabe McCulley (6.1 ppg), sophomore center John Bohannon (5.2 ppg) and sophomore guard Michael Perez (1.5 ppg). McCulley, the team’s lone senior, is out for 6-8 weeks after undergoing surgery for a stress fracture in his left leg.
UTEP will open the season with an exhibition game against Eastern New Mexico on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Haskins Center. The regular season opener is also at home, on Friday, Nov. 11 versus UT San Antonio.
UTEP Basketball season tickets will be sold at the scrimmage and are also available now by calling (915) 747-6150.
