Elkana Rotich was named Conference USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week and Risper Kimaiyo earned co-athlete announced the league officials Tuesday.
Kimaiyo claimed her second-consecutive meet title at the Pre-National Invitational clocking in a time of 20:19 in the 6K race. This marks the fourth first-place victory for the All-American. This is Kimaiyo’s fourth Athlete of the Week honor this season and the 11th of her career.
Rotich took 14th-place setting a new season-best with a time of 24:31 in the 8K race. This is the Kenyan natives third honor of the season and his fifth career Athlete of the Week honor.
The sweep of the award is the fourth for the Miners this season. Kimaiyo and Rotich were tabbed with the honor on Sept. 17.
The men’s and women’s cross country team will return to action on Monday, Oct. 31 at the Conference USA Championships in Houston, Texas.
