LAS CRUCES- Doña Ana County fire crews battled two separate mobile home fires in the county Tuesday night. One prompted an arson investigation while the other displaced a family of three.
Firefighters responded to a call at 10:40 p.m. at 62 Warthen Rd. in Anthony after an improperly-used extension cord overheated and sparked a fire. The home was completely destroyed, temporarily displacing the family who lived there. No injuries were reported.
The other fire, which was called in at the same time as the Anthony fire, razed a mobile home at 600 Luna Azul in Chaparral. That fire is being treated as an active arson investigation, according to Capt. Kellen Tarkington of Doña Ana County Fire and Emergency Services. The home was vacant at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
Investigators have not yet estimated the cost of damages in either incident.
