The hearing is underway for convicted serial killer David Leonard Wood, he murdered six El Paso women in in 1987 and is facing the death penalty.
But, his defense team says wood is mentally retarded and cannot be executed by law.
Today, witnesses took the stand to talk about their childhood memories of Wood.
Wood's defense team argues that he is mentally retarded and under the law, can't face the death penalty for killing six women in 1987.
Childhood friend Keith Springer described wood as 'withdrawn' and not very sociable.
Springer is almost three years younger than Wood but says he thought wood always acted immaturely.
"I felt he was slow and behind his age group," Springer said.
Wood's sister, Debbie Galvan, describes her brother as goofy and immature even as he got older.
Galvan says she used to lend Wood money, when he was about 30 years old, until she found out he was using it all to play the 'claw' machine games at arcades.
"It just seemed irresponsible, immature," Galvan said.
During cross examining Galvan told prosecution that her brother taught himself how to play the guitar.
Prosecution also read letters Wood wrote to his sister discussing international current events.
They also talked about magazine subscriptions he had in jail like "Seventeen" magazine and other magazines with pictures of teenaged girls, Woods spoke out loud with an obscenity...
"You've got to be s******g me man, that's the best they've got," Wood said.
Galvan said she stopped paying for her brothers magazines and didn't recall him receiving a subscription to "Seventeen."
The hearing continues tomorrow.
We'll be in the courtroom and keep you posted on the wood hearing.
