EL PASO - The 4th Annual Crimes Against the Elderly Conference and Legal Day is going on right now. The event is an effort to teach elderly people how to protect themselves.
According to a press release from the El Paso County Attorney, the event will include "living will clinics," where seniors will be provided free legal assistance in executing advanced medical directives and medical power of attorney. They'll also be able to have their legal questions answered and get information about services available to them in the community.
The event is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring a donation of personal hygiene items, adult diapers, clothing, fans or blankets for the Adult Protective Services' Silver Star Resource Room, which benefits the elderly or disabled clients.
It is taking place today from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the El Paso Community College Administrative Services Building, located at 9050 Viscount.
