EL PASO – Starting Wednesday, Oct. 5, through Friday, Oct. 7, El Paso Water Utilities crews will close some northbound and southbound lanes of Resler Drive near its intersection with Cloudview Drive in West El Paso.
At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.
The lane closures are required so contractors can continue replacing and relocating a 45-year-old water main that runs along North Mesa Street. Since it was installed, the 24-inch pipeline has broken and been repaired at least 14 times.
While there is an inconvenience now, EPWU officials say completing the replacement and relocation work now will lead to fewer inconveniences in the future.
“It does cause a great deal of difficulty when we have to do a repair, because it’s right there in that busy section of West El Paso,” said John Balliew, EPWU’s vice president of operations and technical services.
When the project is completed, instead of running along the busy Mesa Street, the new pipeline will run in a utility-owned right of way behind Colony Cove shopping center and along Cloudview Drive.
The $2.13 million project was awarded to El Paso-based Saab Site Contractors. Completion of the entire project is expected by early 2012.
