EL PASO- El Paso County Commissioners are facing a tough decision next week- raise taxes or pay you less to serve jury duty.
Commissioners put off a decision on how much to pay jurors in their meeting today. The county currently pays jurors $6 a day during jury selection and $40 a day as a juror, but next year could be different. That's because the state plans on cutting $50,000 in jury reimbursement funds to the county. Commissioner Dan Haggerty doesn't know how the county can afford to keep paying jurors $40 a day.
"I just think that's too much money. We don't have that," says Haggerty.
Haggerty says he wants more time to figure at how much the county can afford to pay jurors. Commissioners will take up the issue again next week.
