The attempt to override Mayor John Cook's veto of a resolution last week, has failed.
Council had unanimiously voted to initiate a discussion with the Federal Government on the decriminalization of narcotics, last week. Hours later, Mayor Cook vetoed the resolution.
Today, City Representative Beto O'rourke did not get the support he needed to override that veto.
Only four of the eight city council members voted for the override, including, O'rourke, Steve Ortega, Susie Byrd and Ann Morgan Lilly.
The other four members of Council, Melina Castro, Rachel Quintana, Eddie Holguin and Emma Acosta voted against the override.
Council needed six of the eight votes in order to override the veto.
