LAS CRUCES - Students, staff and faculty within Las Cruces Public Schools have planned several events to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11.
Highland Elementary School will hold a jog-a-thon on Friday, September 9 at 8:15am. The theme is "patriotism, in remembrance of 9/11."
Friday, student at Zia Middle School will write the names of each 9/11 victim on a strip of paper. The strips will then be made into chains to hang in the hallways of the school. Then on Sunday at 7pm they will hold a candlelight vigil in front of the school.
At Las Cruces High School on Friday, students will hold a 9/11 ceremony in the gym. The presentation will include the posting of 40 state flags representing a victim from each state. It will also include a moment of silence.
New Mexico Senator Tom Udall is also asking people, "On 9/11, Stop and Remember." The National Moment of Remembrance will begin at 11am, and Udall is calling for places of worship and first responders across the country to ring bells and sirens during that time.
