A West El Paso gym just started up a new dance-inspired workout. SH'BAM gets people dancing to the latest chart-topping hits and remixes. And instructors say you don't have to be a great dancer to enjoy the class.
"It's the newest exercise and here in El Paso," said SH'BAM instructor Dinorah Borjon. Even though it's been around for just two weeks, EFS Athlectics in West El Paso has had a full house for every SH'BAM class. "It's the only gym to have this kind of class. We are the first instructors here to get certified in SH'BAM here at EFS, so we are very proud of that," said Borjon.
Borjon says the workout is so simple anyone can do it. "It's very easy steps. Just follow the leader, you know. It's steps who inspire you to move, to inspire you to feel the rhythm," said Borjon.
The workout keeps participants on their toes with 12 of tracks of the most popular dance music hits heard at clubs. According to a workout chart, during the 45-minute workout, you can burn up to 400 calories. It also helps you with coordination while shaping and toning your body.
"You move everything, you know. You use your arms. You use your legs. It's your whole body who work here," said Borjon.
Yolanda Pirk has been to pretty much every SH'BAM class since it started. "It's really fast beat. It's non-stop," said Pirk. "It's a great class. It's fun. You leave all your worries behind."
And by the time the workout's done, knowing she's burned a good amount of calories has her dancing on air. "You get a really good workout and a good sweat," said Pirk.
"If you want to have fun in one class, SH'BAM is the class for that," said Borjon.
EFS Athletics is located at 120 Paragon Lane, Suite 201. SH'BAM is held Mondays at 9 a.m. and on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. You can try out your first SH'BAM class for free.
